Have you ever heard the phrase "If you love your job you will never have to work again"?
I recently read a post by Mitch Matthews on the IowaBiz Blog entitled "I'm 42 and I'm still not sure what I want to be when I grow up!" He tells us of a client he is coaching who has lost the fun in her work. The way Mitch describes how the work she used to love has now just become a job reminded me of a book I have recommend many times.
The New Retire-Mentality by Mitch Anthony teaches us to find a way to make a living doing whatever it is we enjoy. He tells us to earn a playcheck, not a paycheck. It is a great, easy read and only $12.21 at Amazon.com. You may not agree with everything the author says (at least I didn't), but it will certainly get you thinking.
The impact this book has had on me personally as well as my practice has been profound. I have several clients (including myself) who have targeted not a retirement date, but a freedom date... A day when their financial need to work will be surpassed by their desire to keep working.
I really do love my work. Many of my friends have become clients, and many of my clients have become friends. I have the time and freedom to teach some college courses, the opportunity to help others and to watch them achieve their goals.
If you would like closure about Mitch Matthews' client, he followed up in a later post.
